Help restore wild populations of the endangered takhi.
The last surviving caballine wild horse, the takhi (primordial wild horse) had been hunted to extinction in the wild by the late 1960s. A breeding programme with the few captive survivors enabled reintroduction into the wild 30 years later. Yet the small population is still threatened by competition from livestock, infectious livestock dieases, hybridization with domestic horses and extreme weather events (drought, severe winters).
